Hull-based workers for Siemens Gamesa have obtained an 8.4% pay rise over a two year period. This follows a deal being struck by trade union Unite.

Of the close to 300 workers of Siemens Gamesa who build wind turbine blades, more than 9 in 10 voted for the aformentioned deal.

The deal, secured by Unite, will see a 4.5% increase in pay this year followed by a 3.9% rise for 2025. As a result of this deal, no industrial action took place.

Unite expected that industrial action would have caused substantial disruption to the building of two offshore wind farms. Those being wind farms located in East Anglia and Moray West.

Unite or more formally Unite the Union was formed in 2007 and currently has over 1.2 million members.

Wind power is expected to be a major component of Labour’s ambitious energy plan. Recently, a bidding window opened for this year’s renewable energy funding allocation. This includes £1.1 billion in government funding for offshore wind out of a total of £1.5 billion. The government is targeting 100% clean electricity by 2030.
