OEUK Warns About Gap Between The UK’s Energy Production And Usage Levels

Last updated: October 11, 2024

Industry trade association Offshore Energies UK has recently raised concerns over the UK’s declining energy production levels and more specifically the gap between production and consumption.

At OEUK’s Wells Conference, the trade association’s Health, Safety, Environment & Operations Director, Mark Wilson, essentially highlighted how the UK is producing less energy. The figure is, according to news sources, at only 60% of energy demand levels.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the cost of the UK’s imports from Europe have reached record highs.

This can be largely attributed to the decline in the UK’s fossil fuel industries such as coal power stations and the North Sea oil and gas sectors.

On the other hand, the UK has seen a growth in renewable energy production as Statista data highlights. That said, more is needed to make up for the decline in fossil fuel-based production and close the gap between UK’s energy needs and production.

OEUK was previously called Oil and Gas UK but was re-branded with new offshore energy considerations like offshore wind.
