Inspectorate Submits Recommendation Report For Rampion Offshore Wind Extension

Last updated: November 7, 2024

According to a report on Thursday, the UK Planning Inspectorate submitted a report in relation to Rampion 2, that being a high capacity extension for Sussex-based Rampion offshore wind farm.

The UK Planning Inspectorate is a government agency. The agency is designed to undertake executive functions for the Ministry of Housing, local communities, the UK government and local government alike.

The Inspectorate manages and addresses planning applications for national infrastructure, planning appeals and more.

After public consultation and a review of the application from German multinational RWE (the energy company behind the Rampion offshore wind farm) for a development consent order, the Inspectorate concluded the examination period two months ago.

The Inspectorate’s Examining Authority or ExA has submitted their findings/conclusions and recommendation to the Energy Secretary who must make a decision on Rampion 2 before February 6th, 2025.

Reportedly, Rampion 2 is set to feature 90 wind turbines with planned installation south and west of the current Rampion offshore wind farm.

If permission is granted, the installation of Rampion 2 might get under way toward the end of 2026 or in early 2027. In this scenario, the extended offshore wind farm would be completely operational by 2030.
