GB Energy To Provide Local Government £10 Million

Last updated: March 28, 2025

According to GOV.UK, the initiative Great British Energy or GB Energy is to provide £10 million in funding to local government.

New Local Energy Projects

The funding is designed to support local energy projects, more specifically innovative clean power projects like hydropower, onshore wind and rooftop solar power. GB Energy is providing the £10 million to various new partnerships.

GOV.UK adds how GB Energy, alongside mayoral strategic authorities throughout England will work on various clean energy projects. This will come with the purpose of using profits to either reinvest in these communities or to lower the energy bills of locals.

In general, GB Energy will own and invest in various clean energy projects nationwide, with £8.3 billion in government funding provided by parliament in summer 2024.

These projects will include investment for major clear energy projects and supporting community energy. The former is set to increase jobs in the nation’s industrial heartland while working toward more security for Britain’s energy supply.

GB Energy Initiative

The Great British Energy Initiative, founded earlier this year, was first proposed by the government in late 2024. The government-owned initiative is a renewable energy investment body designed to own, manage and operate a range of clean energy projects across the UK.

Parliament provided GB Energy with £8.3 billion in funding, including approximately £3.3 billion for local energy project grants and £5 billion in capital value for the purpose of key stakes in energy companies and projects.

New Rooftop Solar Project

Recently, GB Energy also launched a £200 million rooftop solar government investment. This will see the company work alongside the NHS and schools to add rooftop solar panel to 400 sites.
