A report from Cornwall Insight shows how hybrid clean energy hubs or HEHs could contribute to the UK reaching net carbon zero emissions.
The report was performed by Cornwall Insight on behalf of green energy company Telis Energy UK.
Hybrid energy hubs would serve the purpose of combining a range of low-carbon technologies (e.g. solar power, onshore wind and battery storage).
As a result, they could reduce UK grid connection bottlenecks by utilising a single grid connection for an effective delivery of network energy.
The report claims that HEHs could offer grid stability with internal optimisation while also lowering the burden on the National Energy System Operator or NESO.
Other potential benefits of HEHs include cost-reductions and propelling the push toward a UK with clean and affordable energy.
Reportedly, potential challenges might include the need for policy and regulatory changes. If support for HEHs grow, this may push the government to invest or otherwise promote the use of such hybrid tech on the path to their low-carbon and clean energy goals.
